The Medieval Museum in Waterford is located between Cathedral Square and Bishop’s Palace in Waterford City and is Ireland’s only purpose-built medieval museum. It is also the only building in Ireland to incorporate two medieval chambers, the 13th century Choristers’ building and the 15th century Mayor’s Wine Vault. The eye-catching giant sculpture on the gable was inspired by a tiny 13th century belt mount found in Waterford. The Medieval Museum galleries feature some of the treasures of medieval Ireland and Europe including the unique 4 metre long illuminated Great Charter Roll of Waterford (1373) as well as the sumptuous cloth-of-gold vestments (1460). The museum also features relics, pilgrim badges, the sword of Edward IV, Henry VIII’s Cap of Maintenance and more great artefacts. The museum is open every day of the week and tickets can be purchased online.

‘Great Central Location’
“We stayed for 5 nights and found the staff were lovely, really friendly and helpful. I recommend the breakfast; we received a warm welcome each morning and the atmosphere was relaxed while there was plenty on offer. The hotel itself is comfortable and clean and the room was clean while bed was comfortable. The bar food was good, reasonably priced and service excellent. Great central location with Viking Triangle (where the Medieval Museum, Bishop’s Palace and Reg’s tower are located plus boat trips) is a ten minute walk.”
