In 1993, there became a witty idea to create some fun on a summer Sunday afternoon. This idea was introduced to provide something fun for people of all ages to enjoy on the historic streets of Waterford City.

This one-day event became so popular, they suggested that it become an annual event in Waterford city. And so the creation of Spraoi Summer Festival began!

Spraoi festival is now a very prominent street art theatre company, best known for its annual Spraoi parade and festival which is held annually every August bank holiday weekend.

The Spraoi festival promotes the wonderful skills and talent of street art performers and attracts over 100,000 locals and tourists from around the world each year. With so much to see and do over the three-day event, it comes as no surprise that it has become internationally recognised. In Waterford City especially, the August bank holiday weekend is now better known as the ‘Spraoi Weekend’.
